Commerce Editor

Bauer Xcel, the digital division of Bauer Media, is in the midst of a holistic reset, focusing our editorial efforts exclusively on a 40+ women’s audience, while simultaneously developing complementary and tangential online experiences that drive revenue in new ways beyond display and programmatic advertising. We are seeking a Commerce Editor who will oversee the content created in support of these new lines of business which will include a combination of commerce, lead generation, affiliate and more.

Reporting to the General Manager, Digital, the Commerce Editor will be tasked with managing the production of this revenue-driving content, with the support of a team of editors and freelancers. You will be responsible for the success of this content -- overseeing ideation, creation, execution and analysis. Success in this instance is measured by conversions, and revenue generated, not strictly traffic. Testing is a core component of everything we do, but it is of particular importance in this initiative as we’ll be working with an agile-like approach. We will conduct simultaneous tests across various categories -- moving quickly, releasing, testing, and adapting, as needed.

The day-to-day of this job will include editing commerce articles to ensure they uphold affiliate and editorial standards, analyzing traffic and conversion results from past efforts to form recommendations for improvement, and brainstorming to continuously develop new successful types of content.

About You

This is an exciting role for a strategic editor who enjoys the challenge of starting something from scratch and learning as you go. You will work cross functionally as part of a core swat team focused on launching new websites and businesses outside of our core editorial business. This team will be comprised of editorial, product, tech, marketing and revenue.

  • Candidates should have a background in writing or editing content about products, or other types of experience in online services.
  • Candidates should be flexible, creative, and driven, willing to try new things and pivot when necessary.
  • You are able to roll up your sleeves and enjoy getting down into the details, but can also take a step back to focus on the larger gameplan. 
  • You understand that digital success is achieved through a lot of trial and error, and you are very comfortable testing something one week, and scrapping it the next when data indicates that it’s not quite working. 
  • You are creative by nature but understand business needs, and with that, you are comfortable partnering with a revenue team.
